Hello I’m Ben, nice to meet you!

I’m a product and people generalist based in Auckland, New Zealand. I’ve been doing some version of this work for eighteen years. These days I’m Head of Product at SiteHost, where I run the Product & Automation team.

If you’re wondering what a ‘product and people generalist’ is, that’s fair, I wondered for a while too. I’ve settled on it because anything narrower leaves out a big part of how I work. I’m passionate about building great products and empowering the teams that are behind them, and the two are hard to separate.

What that looks like in practice takes many different forms. I started out writing front end code, then co-founded a design and development studio and ran it for five years. The last decade has been leading a team that has taken two platforms from an idea to a shipped product, worked on mergers that brought other hosting businesses into the group, launched a brand internationally, and lead redesigns of our brands and the control panel our customers use every day.

I’ve written code and prose, designed interfaces, built teams, revamped hiring processes, handled sales and more. I feel most at home when I’m focused on helping enact the most valuable change that a business needs at that moment in time.
